Welcome to Heidelberg Golf Club

OUR PROUD HISTORY

Heidelberg traces its origins back to 1861, when Heinrich Ueckermann acquired part of the Farm Langlaagte and established a general dealer. Several years later, in 1865, he appointed T.W. Fannin as surveyor for a town development. This development was christened Heidelberg, in honour of Ueckermann’s alma mater in Germany, and so Heidelberg was established in 1866.

The First Anglo-Boer War, which lasted from 1880 to 1881, saw Heidelberg as the capital of the then Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek. When gold was discovered in 1886, the office of the Mining Commissioner was set up in the town. Heidelberg continued to grow with leaps and bounds to the lovely town it is today.

Established in 1992, Heidelberg Golf Club welcomes visitors with its special blend of charm from yester-year and modern amenities in an atmosphere of conviviality and camaraderie.

Situated 50 kms south of Johannesburg on the Durban N3 lies our 9 hole links type golf course  with 18 tee boxes.  We have a very interesting, yet user friendly, design with quite a few doglegs.  If you manage to stay out of the rough and water hazards, you will achieve a good score. From the first to the eighteenth hole, every step affords a panoramic view of the Suikerbosrand.

We have had the privilege of being awarded the Best 9 Hole Golf Course, from Ekurhuleni Golf Union, in 2005, 2006, 2009 as well as the Social Club of the Year 2005 – quite an achievement for a small Golf Club.

Whether you’re a tourist enjoying our history and scenery, or a local golfer, visit us and see for yourself why Heidelberg Golf Club is such a popular course.
